America - Out of Control?
#11

From a UK pov I'm slightly concerned that Afganistan is turning into our Vietnam, however given the fact that the taliban want the whole world under sharia law then its easy to see why many do choose to fight.

Either way it will cost soldiers lives, but thats war, its shitty.

I have top respect for those that do go and fight. salute

Your call Marine. Good luck either way.

Thank you all for your responses. I appreciate all of your comments. After careful consideration, I have decided not to re-enlist. The Marine Corps is not the same as it was when I joined. It's definitely not the same Corps that these older Marines have described to me from years past. I do love the Marine Corps, but it's a different beast these days. I am here in readiness if my Corps ever calls on me, but I feel it's best for me to wander for a while....

And oh yeah good decision Marine.

They're saying that some diseases can spread in the same way as a zombie plague is perceived in films to spread and as such they have tried to simulate it and work out the best way to react.
Fast and bloody seems to be the conclusion.

My personal view is that the desire to join any form of military should automatically proclude you from being able to join.
As for the American Military machine!?!?! I'll start supporting them when it's a conflict that directly theatens them, and is not based on oil, religion or with nations that they themselves previously trained and armed. As the late George Carlin put it so eloquently "America is a nation of bullies that just go around arming the world and bombing the shit out of little brown countries!"
Fingers crossed that Obama and the Democrats can clean up some of the shit storm left behind by Cheney and Rumsfeld.

And thats my "two cents" Very Happy

(PS - Glad to read that you re-considered Marine. I guess they dont totally brainwash you guys after all!)

I think the shit that's going down is totally justified.
The fact that a new law in the "liberalised" Afghanistan allows a man to starve his wife if she doesn't fuck him makes an entirely unregulated Afghanistan a danger to anyone not living in a strict Sharia country.

This thread is turning out better than I thought it would. I am in agreement with all of you, as you have all made valid points. I do think that america should continue to bomb the crap out of Iraq and Afghanistan just for principle though. Mr. Pure I feel you are correct. I also feel that you are correct Sneakerfile. I think that both of your conclusions are acceptable. I just like the thought of those Taliban bastards being vaporized. And it seems that America is using drones and intelligence to minimize our losses at this point. If they had only used that tactic in the beginning we would have been better off. President Bush #2 is a moron. He should have learned from his father and maybe some history books before declaring war on Iraq. That country has been at war (with itself and everyone else) since the beginning of recorded history. What a mess. Economic, Political, Historical Suicide. He will go down in history as a tyrant, the same as the people he has waged war against.

I think we should change this thread to some sort of "political ramblings." Everyone has an opinion. It might spice things up a bit.

While I enjoy a good political debate, I'm not sure a "political ramblings" thread is really a good idea...
This is a public forum and I think that things like religion and politics should be steered away from since both topics can evoke very strong emotions.
On the whole the membership gels along pretty nicely, but I think in depth conversation on either subject could tip the balance...
