I know I posted about this in teh chat forum...
I don't think it's about 'how much info' there is about each shoe...
It's about collating all the data and have it in a more usable/searchable format.
We need like the Discogs of Superstars - good thing about wikis though is that everyone can join in and add to teh knowledge.
I think the key is to set out what info there is about each shoe and get a good format ironed out before the database gets too big and it become too hard to retro fit any changes.
My Suggested Fields
Name: Official Name of the shoe
Nicknames: Unofficial Name of the shoe
Release Date: (possibly just year or season)
Colourways: Colour variants released
Limited: List the quantity that were manufactured if known.
Art Numbers: Known art/serial numbers associated with the shoe
Designer: Who designed it (Adidas for normal shoes).
History: A narrative section listing any information about the shoe, the designer's background how the shoe fits in with the fashions of that year etc etc.
Photos: Standardised set of photos - a series of photos of a preset size, from preset angles. Show the show from both sides, front, back, angled shot, in box, tongue labels (inside and out), sole, tags, in-box, accessories (if any).
Fake Information A narrative section listing information pertaining to known fakes, how to spot them, things to watch for etc.
Fake Photos: Photos of fake details.
Even if it's a bog standard mass market Superstar all of these fields could be filled in, even if the text is short.

I checked that wikipedia thing, anyone can just edit the fuck out of anything they like, daft if you ask me.
You could end up with some nob going in and changing shit and SuperstarDB has a few ebay based enemies to say the least
We just need a decent bit of software to get a database going, Olstar has been looking for something suitable.
We could even html it if anyone's up for it?

Wikis are an excecise in anarchy (the political variety, rather than the media fed violent variety)...
For the most they tend to work for the same reason that open source software development works.
However, elements of vandalism can creep in on wikipedia this tends to be political stuff - people with opposing views will alter pages to their bend. Just check any pages on wikipedia about Arab-Israeli conflict.
Wikipedia generally has to moderate these pages.
However, our Superstars Wiki would attract much less attention. Personally I was thinking of a seperate Superstars Wiki, however, a cheaper and easier way of going about it would be to just add pages to Wikipedia, after all it has pages for computer games and such as the like - so why not trainers...
