this last year has been a bit crazy for me; i can't figure out if i'm gonna stay here in texas or move back to cali. it's not really a choice so much as trying to get into a good firm. i'm not very fond of texas with not being a native but a lot of the funding for projects i usually work on in california are being cut forcing me to hang here. i have also been following politics here stateside for a while. it wasn't something i was ever into, guess just one of those things that comes with maturity. i have definitely been discontent with the current administration. i have never been one to pick parties, i'm more of an independent but i tend to have more democratic views; and just for the count i did not vote for bush either time. i have been quite pleased to see the rest of america waking up to the bs him and the republican party has put are country through, and definitely believed despite a black man or a woman the dems would be a shoe in. i woke today watching the news to find that mccain now leads in the polls by 4 points
are you kidding me?! last week obama was up 13. which brings me to my point, if my country puts another republican in office i'm out, out the country, done. i was actually approached at a conference over the summer to go work in the uk. at the time i declined but took his card for future reference. my wife is fully behind me if we do this but this is were you guys from over there come in, i've only ever been to denmark and wouldn't know where to go. i've contacted my contact and he basically said i could live anywhere in the uk, but thats pretty big right? i failed geography but doesn't britain cover scotland down to wales? so what is a hip but not too trendy for two young (about to break 30) professionals. we basically want to be centralized in area with a little bit of it all.

London maybe? Its pretty much got everything, but the traffic/conjestion is very bad.
I live in manchester, everythings fine apart from the weather... But then you'd have to figure out where abouts in say london you would live.

I love Glasgow, but it isn't the warmest place on earth, but it's got great venues, a huuuuge city centre, millions of pubs (sitting outside with a beer in royal exchange square under the lights cheers everyone up, even in February), loads of art, relatively decent public transport and loads to explore.
One day, I'm going to move back up there.

whoa.. the UK is a big place mate.. It really depends on where the work is.
There are lots of big citys and towns with their own vibe.. Oxford, Brighton, Manchester, Edinburgh.. plus loads more. London's great, but very expensive. I commute every day into London and it's a much better way to live (IMHO)

i will be working as an environmental consultant requiring me to oversee multiple projects at any particular time all over the uk with wherever i choose to live as my home based office. both the wifey and i are into the club scene mostly dance/house, we try to avoid the larger stadium/rave events. she is also into the whole art culture thing while my free time on the weekends are spent at a sports bar with my boys kicking back some beers and watchin the games, and i'm in to all sports. public transportation is a big plus but not a requirement, i just hate to drive. i don't mind living on the outskirts of town, the suburbs, but i definitely need an area with some sort night life, restaurants, bars, and movie theaters; and i'd prefer no further than an hour from downtown of a big city. if any you could throw me some websites that i can scope out areas and maybe find an apartment locator i'd appreciate it.

definitely London. I only lived there for a few months, but it's an absolutely fantastic city. Sure, it can be expensive, but you can also do things on the cheap and have a great amount of fun.
I lived in Stoke Newington and paid £100 a week I think in rent. No tube stop, but good bus service and you can walk to a lot of great places pretty readily.
Have you considered Canada at all? Montreal is pretty good fun right from the go and Toronto is fantastic once you've settled in and get to know it.
Vancouver is also good if you're into the great outdoors.

There's no way you want to leave the states to come and live in this shit bin - Everything costs about a million times more than over there and the government are a useless bunch of fuckers just like your lot.
The UK is basically run by a bunch of morons and is descending into a recession mate so even if the states seem bad, at least you've got the weather! I'd actually like to leave this shitting country and live in the states...
If i were you I'd think about living somewhere in mainland europe, p[ick a big cosmopolitan city and the majority of people will speak english and it isn't too hard to learn a language when you live in that country (so I'm told) - Countries that are part of the Euro are looking to escape the recession for the most part too apparently

I've got no suggestions as to where you should move to, I just wanted to give you mad props for having been to Denmark - I don't think many Americans even know our small country - even though it's a nice one!
UK would probably be a better choice though as they speak English and I've been told that Danish is a pain to learn... I thought it was quite easy though...

Other than that, if you want a hip/trendy place then London's probably a good shot as the others have mentioned. Cardiff and Swansea are another couple of places I've heard good things about but don't know of personally (hopefully heading that way myself soon).
