How did you swing that? Travelled down to just near St Albans last weekend on a Virgin train, was pretty nice actually. Bloody fast too!
The website was quoting about ?600 to go first class return from Manchester to London!
If you need places to stay the Ibis is the cheapest place in the city centre and it's in a good location too, basically right in the city centre. Failing that follow the Met line and choose a travel lodge. I think ?47 is the cheapest they do in the UK but it's more at the weekend...you can easily get someone in a sleeping bag on the floor of a double room though.
