If you are talking that very first 60Gb version you are probably right.
I actually sold my first ps3 for more than 500€ less than year ago just because someone wanted to have one with PS2 compatibility along the other extra features. I were more interested about new warranty and silent PS.

The old version was a bit boring to me and maybe a bit too arcade.

Yeah, maybe, but still a good game.
It is a bit arcadey but that also makes it playable.
I ain't too into all that tinkering bollocks.

I can see your point and to be honest it was quite ok.

Personal preference tbh. Either go for the wii if you aren't too serious about games or you want people who don't play games to play with you or the Xbox/Ps3 for grown games. Most games thesedays come out on both Xbox and Playstation but each has a few exclusives that might tip the balance for you (Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Uncharted, Halo, other forgotten stuff). Also worth bearing in mind the Xbox is a fair bit cheaper to start with although Playstation's online component is free, Xbox Live is a subscription service. Graphics and performance are generally better on the PS3 too, along with Bluray support that comes with it.
It comes down to which fits what your after best. If you need amazing graphics and all the latest shooters/racing games then the Wii isn't for you. If there are a couple of "must have exclusives" (Wii has it's fair share too - Smash brothers, Super Mario [kart], Zelda) then go for that console. If you want something that the girl can play (other than Rock Band) then the Wii is perfect. Really just about what you want it for and whether the price is worth the trade-offs.

It's a similar thing to what Playstation did a few years ago with Eye Toy but more advanced.
If I had to choose just one console I'd pick the PS 3 without even batting an eyelid.

I'm with Mr. P on this one. Had a X360 when it came to market but sold it soon after. I know it's better now than then but still haven't missed anything else than Forza which was quite OK.
Just got my PS3 slim on Friday. I'd say this one is a bit more quiet than the last version.

Not that into playing console games (far too addictive!) however if I was going to splash the green I would get a wii, plenty of playability on one of those.
Saying that my favourite modern game is Halo /2/3 - love it!
