Anyone know if i buy a phone from the states (amazon.com to be precise)
will it work normally over here in the uk..will there be any differences?

As long as it's unlocked and quad band you should be ok. You'll have to get another charger tho'.

on the amazon uk site its 469.99 which is a big jump compared to that

fair do's... if you got an old contract thats cheap then it makes more sense to do that, rather than get tied into a new one. will work out roughly the same, over 12 months, but if you keep the phone longer you will start saving

ill keep it for a month or two and sell it
that way i wont loose out much lol
and yh 12 months it would work out the same but contracts would be 18/24 months
