I don't think the sole/shells on the old pro models will be less shiny than the DB pro mods, so don't let that stop you. It's basically just black rubber and the surface/shine will be the same.

@Benji: do you think you could do nubuck just as good as leather? I've got a pair of black DB pro mods myself... Wink

Well, you can dye them.. but would need to bleach them first, haven't experimented with that yet. But have done some light to dark dying.
You can use nubuck as base for paint.. Rob L does. It should be the perfect base because of the fine grained hairs make the perfect key.
Got a nubuck pair already on the go so will keep you posted.

Sounds good mate thumbleft

Btw, I'd probably go for indigo blue w/black stripes if I decided to have them customised, so I don't know if bleeching would be needed?

I don't know if its the picture or the contrast between the sole and the rest of the shoe, but those shells look really shiny/plastic up close imo.

The eldridge 80s come the same way. its a coating that eventually wears off

Look like the same as my ProMod Vin Lux to me.. they are still fairly shiny, definitely not like a Black SS2 shell.

Like Inphinity said, they look the same as the Eldridges or the other sk8ies with the black shell.
