German's grammar is a bit tricky yes until you get into it, with all the exceptions and exceptions of exceptions. Vocabulary wise it has quite a bit in common with Swedish which made it much easier to learn for me because Swedish is the second main language here after Finnish.

I really wish I pushed hard towards learning a language in school. Took it as a doss lesson, really regret it now. Would give my right nut to speak fluent portugese, german or russian.

On the german note, there are harder languages to learn.
Ive worked with a chinese lad called "Hu" for the past 6 months and i still cant pronounce it correctly
Personally i think germans easier than french.
The phrase: "natürlich ist Hans nass, er steht unter einem wasserfall" will get you everywhere
