Drive isn't really that different in any way. It has a few cool moments but pretty much the same plot has been used in numerous car chase movies in the 70s and early 80s, only now a few modern twists and turns have been added into the script. Drive is still among my fav new movies this year, saw it at a movie festival here about a month before its cinema premiere.

Colombiana was pretty crap IMO, great action but lack of everything else. I'd say Hanna was much better a movie of a female assassin even if it had less action scenes.

Priest is one of the worst flicks I've seen all year. Something I don't want to see again.

Both were done by the same director, but the Hollywood remake of 13 Tzameti is also quite terrible. It tries too hard to be something it's not. The original version features much more intense atmosphere.

I just watched Tucker & Dale vs. Evil the other night and thought it was hilarious. It's a horror comedy (or something) and not new but it's easily one of my favs I've seen this year.

Overall I haven't seen a single fantastic new movie this year, all the really good ones have been from last year or earlier. Hah, I think the CGI massacre, 3rd Transformers movie is among the best ones on my list and that should explain alot. Laughing

I took my son to Transformers. Dude, the movie was not so great. As good as the effects and 3D were, the movie was about an hour too long. Even my son (age 9) said so. 2 hours and 34 minutes? C'mon.

I wasn't really serious with it being the best or even up there, hence the smiley. It's the best of the Tf movies but that doesn't make it great. The length didn't bother me as much as all the typical "Bayisms" did.

anyone could have played that role.. and probably better.

aw man i saw a really good movie a while back.... about the BOPA (me thinks) units in brazil that go into the Favela's .... almost likea documentary. really great. But apparently the subtitles were shocking according to the brazilian i was with lol

Tropa de Elite? I remember that being along the lines you described. It was quite big when it came out a few years ago. Really good.

Trope de elite... sounded shit (as a title) but the film was excellent.
More south american stuff that I liked of the same time - ' La Zona' and 'Sin Nombre' both Mexican.
But last week I saw (and probably mentioned already) 'Attack the Block' and thought it was genius!!

Watched The Warrior last night and although the plot had holes, the acting was top notch with some aussie, some fella from Hammersmith and Nick Nolte...I was enthralled. So if you like a bit of drama with some brutal no holds barred cage fighting, then this is for you!
