Bidding etiquette.
#1
This subject has repeatedly come up recently and I guess it needs addressing.
Nobody is gonna make anyone abide by any suggestions whatsoever but failure to respect the general consensus may end up with the culprit being viewed as something of an arsehole.
It seems that giving the first person to spot an item the sole right to bid is unworkable in all circumstances.
Might be a good idea for items that should sell for less than £100 or so, to put on a marker bid to indicate your interest and warn other forum members that you intend to win said item.
However, in the case of items like the Made in France Superstars, I think it should go to the bidder with the most stones.
There were 3 of us in here who wanted them and regretably I didn't win.
Someone else might have.
Anybody else got any ideas on this subject ?

Would it be of any use if we posted our eBay usernames?

There's normally some auctions I wait and see how they pan out before deciding whether to have a bid or not, and dont always remember to check to see who's bidding. It's a tricky area.....I thought that the new anonymous auctions where you see bidder 1, bidder 2 etc were going to be standard, but not sure how they work.

I think once an item goes over about £50 it goes all secret squirrel.
So, first bidders rights on the cheaper items or you is an arsehole.
Free for all and let the cards fall where they may on the more expensive things.
Might also be an idea once you've put a marker bid on an item to bring it to peoples attentions in the wanted thread.
Once the auction is over we can delete it and if you lose interest or the price goes out of your range then you can let any interested parties know.

Surely an ebay auction is exactly that, an auction..

So surely it should go to the person who is willing to pay the most for it?

I understand if somone outbids you on something you want, its annoying.. but surely thats the name of the game?

May the best man win and all that..

And if something go'es out my price range, i stop bidding!

Is that not how it should be?

Yeah possibly but it seems a bit stupid bidding against each other on items that'll turn up again.

Tricky area i think you are getting into Mr.P? I cant think of a fair way to deal with this but i agree that it needs sorting out or we are just gonna put the prices up by outbidding one another?

I'm tempted to say fuck it allready.
Someone has allready thrown a spanner in the works when I told them only the other day that I was gonna be winning a certain item that is about to end.

I know what you mean, i could have had those Underworlds but i held back as i thought it the right thing to do and i lost out big time on them in the end.
It will only ever work if everyone agrees to a rule and sticks to it but i think that (sadly) it wont work and peoples greed will get the better of them?
