Not sure how it works outside of the UK but...
Within the UK items like trainers have a 6 year period in which you can return them to the company you bought them from if a fault appears with the manufacture.
You are liable for the cost of returning the item to them, however if a fault is found they should reimburse the postage cost.
So, if you bought them from a website and then the tongue fell off or something, you'd return them to that website who would then refund you and it would then be up to them to chase up adidas for a refund.
Like I say, this is within the UK but I'd assume similar rules apply in other countries also?
