The start of "Saving Private Ryan" is the same for me, don't think that we'll ever understand the true horror of what a war is like on a scale like that.
The generations born since the since WW2 don't know how lucky we are, we are truly blessed that so many young people gave their lives in the war, both on the battle fields and here at home.
People did have much then and valued life as it could be taken away at anytime, these days people think life is just something to be taken for granted and treat it as such.
I've no doubt that 60 years ago people died in fights outside pubs after an argument but these days people are getting killed for nothing, for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, for trying to protect their own property.
National service may teach future generations the respect that we seem to have lost at the moment.
