Yeah, the "what-ifs" will drive you nuts, Ken. As far as the other stuff... no good deed goes unpunished, as they say.
On the train on my way into work last week and we stopped just short of one of the stations and just sat there for a while. Eventually, they got on the PA and said that there was a "trespasser" on the tracks and that another train would be coming along for us to switch to to take us to our destination. Police and fire start showing up by the droves. Turns out a 47 year-old woman decided to end it all and death by train was the way she chose to do it. After we changed trains we had to backtrack to our origin so we could switch trains again. I made the mistake of looking out the window just as we were passing by the woman's body. It was covered with a yellow tarp but unfortunately it wasn't enough to cover the entire mess.
Life's crazy. Some people are living it to the fullest and then they're taken down before their time by cancer, or any number of other fucked up things. Then there are people that want nothing more than to just check out.
