To continue . . .
It was a spur of the moment type of proposal, carried away in the romance of Valentine's Day 2004, Lake Pichola and Udaipur. Being in a city renowned for its silver I went hunting for a suitable ring, bearing in mind I'd already splashed a month's budget at least on dinner at the Lake Palace.
Anyhoo, as the Bond fans will doubtless know, Udaipur was the setting for Octopussy (indeed it it still shown nightly on many many rooftops around the lake) and after visiting a few jewellers I found myself in the company of a gem of a character with many anecdotes about Roger Moore at the time of filming and some ludicrous photographs featuring turbans, Rajastani moustaches, women, boats and Bond himself. This was the man who sold me a very cheap (possibly the cheapest ever but don't tell anyone) engagement ring , and when I proposed the next day, overlooking the lake and inadvertently to the sounds of the Beasties and Biz performing Benny and the Jets, this was the ring I presented to my betrothed.
Seven years and two children later we're still engaged, which is longer than the ring lasted . . .
