I used to wear each pair I had to the ground and then got a new pair, until I started actually collecting supes and taking care of my shoes. I remember it took some years of wearing a pair of supes every single day in all kinds of weather and getting them so thrashed I had to get a replacement pair.
They can surely take a lot of beating but will look like crap pretty quickly if you don't clean them up afterwards and let a pair rest for a while between full days of usage.
