Flat screen tvs are cool with the HQ image and all the possibilities with technology you can attach to them. They also take much less space than the old tube ones but they're still a loooooooong way from lasting a decade, maybe even two with very little problems like the best tube models did. Average lifespan of a flat screen tv these days is 2-5 years max and if it breaks, in most cases buying a new one will actually be cheaper, easier and especially faster than getting it fixed.
Doing nothing is very hard to do... you never know when you're finished.
