A youth-culture mainstay. To a certain demographic, the visual identity and herbal effects of a misused Philly Blunt wrapper are as easily identifiable as the Golden Arches. How a cheap US-made cigar shifted from low-key celebration fodder to a street icon needs little explanation - if further information is needed, rent Kids for the video blunt 101, or download Redman's How To Roll A Blunt for the relevant audio. In the Bodega-bought luxury stakes, Phillies trump Swisher Sweets every time, and with the Superstar being an earlier hip-hop accessory diverted from its original purpose by enterprising urbanites, even in these heavily-themed days, there's a certain relevance in paying tribute.

While there's a nostalgia trend toward west coast clothing legends, looking to the east, next to West FC and crew's PNB Nation (Before Nick Cannon bought the name), Phillies Blunt, guided by Stash and Futura, was as seminal as any, helping to birth a whole scene, for better and for worse. Given the questionable compliment of being ultra-bootlegged, the hats and tees were a blunted boom-bap mainstay - just watch your average thirtysomething headnodder and chart rap decryer get misty eyed at the mere mention of the name, recalling import garment loss through maternal figures, paint marks and hot rocks.

Naturally these are just a homage, and while we're usually sticklers for minimalism when it comes to our shells, the use of that striking red, brown and white took us back to a time when we were scrambling for this silhouette, rather than being assailed with a million makeups. It isn't low-key by any stretch, but the use of the soft, wrinkled cigar shell effect leather is, by the standard of concept pieces, damn inspired. After providing the Tobacco, adidas have finally provided the bolshier shell. Maybe we're reading into things a little too hard...

What's with all these star things, sheesh there's 6 different pairs with stars on them out there at the moment !
I quite like the vintage ones but then the cream II's look quite nice as well.
No plans to get anything at the moment, I'm just venting my spleen having had a look around.

I think these would look banging with fat Neon Green laces in..
