Movie News & Reviews

I've just watched Disturbia - it was ok. I was impressed with how much product placement they managed to fit into it!

I'm gonna see atonement and death proof this week probably.

I was going to mention that to see if it was out there, but obviously it is. I saw it about a couple of months ago and since then I've just been telling people to see it.

For anyone whose interested, it's a New Zealand movie, with a kind of Napolean Dynamite feel to it about the romantic relationship between a nerd and a geek. Fantastic.

The director is an up and coming director, who gained international recognition for his last short film Two Cars, One Night.

The main character is also half of a comedy 'folk rock' duo called Flight of the Concords (check them out on YouTube)

Also, back to F&F4...

I know the movies are terrible, but I can't help but like them. I own all three on DVD, and went to two of them on the opening night at the cinemas. I'm a big fan of drifting, and I can see myself lining up to see this next one...

Have to agree Scratch watched it last week and was pleasantly surprised! Kurt Russell is excellent as Stuntman Mike! and the head on crash (without any CGI) is the best ive ever seen! Awesome stuff!Cool

I have to add that the best film that i have seen this year so far is "Bobby" i loved it and wasnt expecting it to be as good as it was - brilliant filmaking.

Agree with you there Sooper. I didn't know what to expect with Bobby, so I was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was a brilliant idea, to focus on the lives of the people around the days leading up to his assasination, rather than it being all about him!

Pan Labyrinth is also a bloody marvelous film, but then seeing as its another Guillermo del Torro, I wasn't expecting anything less than brilliant. If you haven't seen it, watch it now (it's on FilmFlex at the moment for those of you with cable) And don't be one of these idiots that misses it because "they don't like subtitles, blah, blah, blah!"
If you can't read, get someone to read it for you!Laughing

Anyone seen Sunshine yet? If not, I recommend it. Really good mixed cast, great effects and a bloody good story.

Also, check out Zodiac. Very good. A little like Bobby, it focuses on people affected by the killer and not the actual killer himself. It's a long one though (about two & hlaf hours) so make sure you're settled in before you start watching.

few films getting my vote:

Death Proof, Tarantino looking great again!
Halloween, Rob Zombie is a legend. Remake though, hope it does justice.
Superbad, simply coz it looks good in the ad, usually means the best bits are IN THE AD!!

It flopped more because of the concept - it was originally released as grindhouse - which was a double bill with rodriguez's planet terror with fake trailers between the two films.
I think people were a little worried, thinking that it was gonna be about five hours long (it wasn't) so didn't bother going.
The rest of the world is now getting the films as separate entities with the possibility of a grindhouse dvd and special cinema screenings of the original film.
It's a shame, I was looking forward to seeing grindhouse. Hopefully I'll get a chance at Leeds film festival in November.

it wasn't 5 hours long? it sure felt like it.

i saw grindhouse in the theatre and i think i liked the concept more than anything else. both 'features' were okay, but i wouldn't have paid full price to see either. well, maybe tarantino because it's tarantino, but...

The trailers are just pretty damn funny.

a few of the guys i work with have seen superbad and they liked it.

It was about 3 hours long which isnt bad for 2 movies.
The two films have now been spilt up and re-edited to make them just short of 2 hours each.
I'm just settling down to watch the extras on the Death Proof dvd.
