As for weight loss, cutting out the logo would save a lot but would that be a bit too labour intensive? You could hollow out the back a bit maybe or even loose some of the metal along the top and bottom edge like this:

Nice photoshopping dude.
I'm thinking of doing a combination of cutting 'em out and halving the depth.
I could get 'em done in Stainless Steel but they nwould be a bastard to keep clean.
Aluminium won't polish.
Silver is the best looking option by far.

I reckon silver's the best choice, might not be able to get a set for every pair in silver but I'm sure everyone could afford at leat one set.

And you can always weigh em in if you need the cash
