Who voted for not had enough of these idiots then?

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - mr.pure - 05-04-09

I could tell you but that'd ruin the anonymity of the vote.

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - cracky - 05-04-09

I almost voted for that myself, but then i came to my senses, it can be amusing at times, but more often just plain annoying.

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - jam - 05-04-09

Sometimes we get new members that have fantastic collections of superstars and have some really nice stuff, but then they start getting cheaky and then get banned.
So when you say:

I do kind of agree with you but there are still people out there that give a shit. We just gotta try out one of these anti-noob stratagies to make sure we get the good ones.
Its like selective breeding..making sure we only get the best. Laughing

Plus there was that mate of pokeys that had a wicked collection (I think) but wouldnt shut up so got banned.
Im not sure which to vote for...

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - mr.pure - 05-04-09

Yeah, tis true, people like them would still get in and subsequently turn out to be cocks and we'd have to ban 'em but at least we wouldn't be running around molly coddling them beforehand, helping them decide which colour pants to put on in the morning.

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - King of the Farm - 06-04-09

"Hey, Have any of you ever heard of Adolf Dassler??? Do you know who he is??"

That being said, I say let the noobs start a new thread in the new member intros only. I think they should probably be able to post in the chat area though.

No matter what, there is always going to be some levels of douches trolling around. I think some people aren't familiar with Forums and others have a different idea of their "Ideal" forum, proper etiquette, and also a different idea than why they are here than many of us who are (quite frankly) die hard Superstar fans.

Just my opinion.

I would've bet a $!1000 that conz douchebag was going to be gone in a matter of hours. Holograms, LOL!

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - steve-o - 06-04-09

Introduction only section sounds good, they can prove themselves in their intro thread and if they seem legit then give them full access

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - BABYLATIN - 06-04-09

that sounds like a good idea

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - steve-o - 06-04-09

on a similar note (feel free to delete this comment if its inappropriate) but have admin considered a private section for regular and genuine members eyes only for things such as upcoming limited releases, group buys or similar subjects?

theres a similar thing on a couple other forums I'm part of (non-shoe related) and it usually works pretty well.

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - reid - 06-04-09

I'm one of the ones who voted for "not enough of these idiots", Cracky. I think that having such a closed off insular community isn't a good thing. Yeah we have to put up with a dickhead every couple of weeks but losing a potentially solid gold member over not wanting a bit of hassle every now and again seems a bit overkill to me. Maybe I just don't fully understand how much trouble and extra work they cause from a moderator perspective.

I think even just limiting them to the intro area is a bit much too - maybe as some said earlier, leave chat open but move the majority of superstar related threads to the "genuine soops" section and keep it that way with the superstar section hidden (or at least not accesible so people at least know it's there).

The only problem with a situation like this is that if some asshat wants to sound decent for a bit and then go on a rampage of retardation, I don't think we'll weed too many out. On the other hand, it might make them work a bit harder and maintain a good image because they know access isn't a right, it's a priviledge.

I guess my position rests on the fact that I think there might be prospective members who'd be worth having out there and treating everyone who applies like an asshat until they've proven otherwise is a bit unfair to those who're good guys but don't get off on the right foot exactly.

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - GeeBee - 06-04-09

I think there's pros and cons of both situations. Incidents like "Bow down" and "Have you heard of Adolf Dassler?" do make for ridiculously comical reading but when you log on to find every last post on every thread by some bell-end making more posts in an hour than many do in a month it's not so amusing. I may not be the most prolific poster on the board but I know I like this place a lot the way it is. Having said that it's really up to the mods who have to trawl through all the shite.

Can I just say to Reid that "asshat" is one of the finest insults I've ever heard... cheers, made my morning

We got one... Wink

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - mr.pure - 06-04-09

I think you misunderstood a little bit there Reidy old boy.
Anyone who was actually interested in Superstars enough to want to join a forum and talk about it would simply email in a photograph or two and subsequently be given access to the forum if they appeared genuine.
Once they got in here, cos we'd all know what a big deal it was to get in in the first place, everybody would give them the warmest welcome possible and they'd instantly feel at home.
I know it's a radical thing to do to any forum but I really feel we've got anyone who cares and wants to talk about it.
If we haven't, there's still a way in for the afficianados.

*Edit.

Smile keep`m out Smile

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - stylz - 06-04-09

I'm all for it, most of the time a decent intro is enough to tell genuine interest and if
they're real heads they'll still find their way in.
I'm the first (and ashamed Embarassed ) to admit that I come in here less now because
there is so much crap and repetition to wade through. Sad
That said though i'll never leave.... Wink
