manchester is the name for the family of items (linen, towels, bed sheets etc...), it's mostly used by shops etc who sell manchester. When you are using a towel it's still called a towel. i don't think anyone has ever said 'I dry my arse crack on a Manchester' except you

the more I call it manchester the dumber it sounds.
