It all depends what you're using it for FC...
First off, it depends on the lighting in the room;
if you have lots of natural sunlight coming in from the windows where the TV will be going, plasma will be a bad decision because they have very minimal anti-glare technologies in them, so it will decrease you're watching experience! Plasma TV's are meant for basements and very dark rooms. LCD's on the other hand come with Lots of anti-glare technologies and can be placed in bedrooms and living rooms.
Secondly, the previous two are correct, you will only find high refresh rates (600hz +) on a plasma tv. This makes it ideal for watching sports and movies because it reduces the motion blur caused by very fast movement. Essentially what the tv does is it inserts frames into the image you're seeing that aren't really there. This is a bad thing for gaming, however, because it causes a delay between what your controller inputs and what actually happens on screen.\
Thirdly.. energy consumption. Plasma TV's are much heavier, use much more energy than LCD and LED tv's, and have a much shorter life span.

If you were going sony... just go samsung..
Fact: sony uses samsung panels in their tv anyways, and then boost up the price like crazy.

Cheers Inphinity, that is much appreciated, we have a Samsung 26" in the bedroom, but was looking at Sony as there are some decent deals on Amazon.
The in-laws have a 40" Sony which is very nice. Not in a hurry to buy so I'll do some more research, won't be using it for gaming, it will just be nice to watch stuff in HD and films I've doonloaded from the laptop.

Doubt that's true of all Sony LCD's.
Samsung tend to be at the coal face as it were with speeds etc but I've had way too many Samsung products that have gone tits up well before their time to ever buy anything by them fuck holes again !
I'd pretty much only ever go Sony or Panasonic where tellies are concerned.

My old TV was Sony 55" rear projection model and it was really good. It's a shame that when they finally got that technology right they decided to forget it. Wanted something flatter so got our new tellie for Christmas. It's LG 55LE5500 and so far I have nothing bad to say about it.
What do you guys need WiFi for tellie? I only have wired connection on mine but only thing I use it is to update firmware of the whole system. There is built-in pay-per-view service in it but all the movies are in SD so I rather watch them from bluray to get the full experience. This is probably just regional thing so you might have a better selection in UK.

I'm not saying Sony televisions are bad, they're actually really good. I'm just saying they use Samsung panels in their units and jack up their prices. So you can get an equally good unit for cheaper if you go Samsung.
Everyone's opinion is obviously going to be skewed by past experiences and brand loyalty (much like our love for the trefoil). I was simply giving my two cents to fc

Yeah I guess there's no point telling what to buy. Probably no one here has more than one of same size/price/aged TV in their homes

The EX503 has ethernet, as for wifi you can buy a dongle for circa £60, that said, if you have a PS3 you would have no benefits from the TV having the net......

Apart from it being a bit of a pain in the arse sometimes using the internet through the PS3.
For aesthetic reasons EZ, less cables and not having to pay £60 for a dongle.

No less of a pain that the TV! I have the EX503 connected via ethernet, likewise the PS3 and net on both is shite, hence why I have a PC hooked up to the TV too, also connected via ethernet! (I believe in cables!)
