Take away the hype, the fancy box and all the accessories and what you’re left with isn't a terribly exciting shoe if we’re completely honest. Of course they were a bit special due to the super-limited release and the unique approach to the materials and construction. But adidas kinda lessened the exclusivity of the leather shell and midsole build by releasing the Lux range, which barring the leather outsole, looks like the pretty much the exact same shoe in my opinion. They should’ve kept that style exclusively for the Top Secrets if they really wanted them to appear superior to all other Supes.

That and the fact that they can’t realistically be worn outside of a ballroom somewhat lessens their appeal for me. I’m not the kind of person who enjoys paying crazy sums of money to have boxes and boxes of pristine, unworn Supes sat in a room collecting dust. At some point as an old man I want to look over my Supes and I really want all of them to be worn out, torn up, creased to fuck and covered in god knows what. I want them to prompt memories and bring a smile to my face as I recall the adventures and escapades I got up to whilst wearing them: The dancefloor battles, the running from cops with spray paint falling out my bag and sloppily laced shelltoes flopping off my feet. Driving halfway across Europe in a brukdown £50 car on some mad roadtrip to find some fabled barn full of old adidas shoes. I couldn’t do any of those things in Top Secrets and creating those kind of memories will always mean much more to me than seeking internet props merely for possessing one particular pair of shoes.

^true dat!

I'd be thinking of all the other things I could have bought/done. You could by loads of really nice supes for the price of that one pair.

If I had some, I'd be terrified to wear them due to the cost. I buy to wear- some more than others, not to keep boxed and gathering dust, so personally for me, although they are nice, I can't see what enjoyment I would personally get out of owning a pair.

But still, different strokes for different folks!

To me, they'd be like the David Z "Black Tie" edition.  I'd wear them (regardless of price paid) for extremely special occasions that are away from the elements of course.  I've worn my Black Tie twice... attending wedding receptions.  And that's it. Speaking of which, I have another wedding coming up next month, so opportunity #3 to wear them is right around the corner.  Yippee!  I'd wear those white Secrets with a white tux fo sho Cool

Sorry I haven't responded I'm in New York enjoying the trip I won with my collection of superstars I'll never wear... Jk

For £400 the Top Secrets are something I thought I'd never own let alone get an opportunity to buy at that price. I want to wear all of my Supes but I just find it really hard to with some of them. Some I buy and stick straight on my feet but others are just so cool that I can't bring myself to wear them and trash them. I think growing up my parents just instilled that "save them for best" mentality. I look after the things I own and as much as want to wear them all (and one day I will) I get just as much pleasure from them as anyone else except mine will last me longer. Some day I might have to shift a few pairs and then to someone I'll be that goldmine with a DS or near DS pair of what they want and I'll be happy to let someone else enjoy them.

Only reason I chat and share about supes online is because none of my friends are really interested. The mostly think I'm nuts owning 80 pairs let alone owning even more. So it's nice to interact with people who share the same passion. If I was interested in being an attention whore I'd probably use Instagram a bit more. This competition I won was the first time I'd ever used it.

Supes I must have at some point in a UK11/12....
