Funny story, I was at the mall with my girlfriend the other day. I was after laces. Fat ones. We walked into foot locker and the guy jumped me like a used car salesman. "What are you looking for?" He asked eagerly. I was half tempted to say "Shoes, dumbass." I refrained. "Superstars" My girlfriend said. The salesman's eyes lit up as he directed me to the wall with supes on it. They were nothing special. Same common colourways. I was just there to get laces. "Anything particular you're looking for?" The salesman asked me. I laughed. I knew I wanted the all black with red stripes. I also knew those were really hard to find, but I told him anyway. He said "Oh, yeah we haven't had those for a while." What he said next was quite possibly the dumbest thing I have ever heard. He said "You know, you could always get these (the all black with white stripes) and just paint the stripes with a sharpie marker." I was so surprised I could barely think. Did he really think that was a good idea? Regardless, I needed laces so I ignored his dumbass comment and made my way to the laces. I bought two pair, one black, one white.
I walked out of there and my girlfried and I had a hearty laugh at his suggestion. Color your supes with a sharpie? Was he fucking serious? What some assholes will say to try to get a sale, I swear.
Anyone else have a funny experience with someone who obviously didn't know they were dealing with a superstar expert?

I am not an expert. I should have said, Supe savvy individual. The problem with coloring them with a sharpie, in my opinion, is that it's not a paint made specifically for leather. I found a site about stripping the sealant from shoes (they were nikes in the video) and repainting them with an airbrush filled with paint specially formulated for leather. I assume the marker would fade or run. Generally making a mess out of a brand new pair of shoes. I just thought it was quite a bad idea in general. I do want to get all those expensive supplies and custom paint some supes myself someday. Not with office supplies.

I love sharpies, cheap and permanent and write on everything. And painting stripes is easy, your missing thepoint if its the serial number and not the colourway. IMO.....
bu then i would say that wouldn't i? (tightass)

That was one dry arsed story!
Nothing wrong with his suggestion either.
Couple of coats in different directions and you'd be good to go.
Sharpie's permanent so no running to worry about!
