Minky has the correct idea, lay of the JD and drink some proper Bourbon, none of that mass produced rubbish.
Knob Creek is very nice, as is Makers Mark, Woodford Reserve, Elija Craig, jaysus there's so many to try. A really nice one to mix with Cola/Pepsi is Jim Beam Green Label - very smooth.

I know exactly what you are talking about poke. Ive asked my self that question several times after a long nights of drinking. Lately ive started looking at my collection the way Pure puts it in his #5 answer. I see the shelf full of shoes as kind of a savings account, i know that if im in a pinch for cash I can sell off a few pairs for some quick cash (has worked for me time and time again). I know that some point in my life im gonna want to take a nice vacation or get hitched (shudders at the thought
) but I figured my supe collection could help finance one of those big expenses and I wouldn't be too upset to let em go for something like that. You are not alone in your way of thinkin pokey!

I sort off think about this the other way round.
My favourite tipple is Rum and my brand used to be Mount Gaye Extra Old. Now i mostly drink Ron Matusalem, but the most amazing Rum in the world is definitely Ron Zacapa Centrino 23. (Expensive as hell and real hard to get hold of)
After a night on the rum i begin to wonder how much i've ended up spending and would it have been better used as a % towards something like a fresh pair of Supes?
I reckon what ever your thing, (and for us it's Supes) as long as it isn't having an adverse effect on you or the people around you (like not feeding the kids to pick up a pair of 35th's) then there's no need to justify it.

I used some "Mount Gay" rum yesterday in some fudge. Made me giggle too, was actually pretty nice (proper carribean stuff)

I cant say I've thought to deeply about it, so long as it aint hurting no one or putting relationships in jeopardy then whats the harm? There are worse things to spend the money on!
Like others, I kind of look at my collection as an investment, if I get desperate I know a can make a few quid sharpish from them, but I would only do that as a last and final resort.
