Wondering if any londoners can help me?

I'm thinking of visiting with my mrs in between xmas and new year, just for a 1 night stay to do a bit of shopping and sight seeing but not sure where is best to stay?

I want a decent hotel that's close to the shopping and general touristy stuff but not a hotel that is gonna cost a fortune. Can anyone recommend anywhere?

Also, is london gonna be a load of stress over xmas cos we'll be getting the train so don't want it to be mad busy and just a nightmare if you know what I mean.

Woody.. I'd check the trains first mate, Christmas time is a prime time for track work so they cancel a lot of trains.
As for cheap hotels.. you may be outta luck TBH. Hotels tend to hike they're prices over the festive season. Check out Lastminute.com or one of the budget hotel sites.
If you do come into town.. give us a shout and maybe we could grab a quick beer!

I use the premier lodge at covent garden, cheap (for london) & cheerful and not a bad location.
