dont know what your doing to make the 1% thing happen because i dont get that when i send money as gift

So let me get this straight:

If I'm sending money (i.e. if buying soups), of course I don't get charged for using PPal, BUT if I'm waiting for cash (i.e. if someone's buying from me), and they send payment marked as a gift, then I won't get dinged %4???

Please verify as I've a number of items to/from happening over the next few weeks!!!!

If this is the case - you da man Bhara!

spot on
you get no charge for recieving at all
the person who sends you payment has to just mark it as gift by sending it as a personal payment Smile
glad its going to save you some money

Any idea what the trail is? I tried testing it, but still saw no 'gift' option...i.e. went to PPal, selected send money payment (not ebay), choose other (not ebay product or goods), then it just went ot another screen to verify...

Thx

you go to send money - the tab is at the top
then the page that comes up gives you two tabs
purchase or personal
click personal
them mark the payment as gift
and the rest is normal from then Smile

Thats about it.
From what i could work out but i may have done it wrong (hence the 1%)

The other person has to initiate the transaction by using the 'send money', they then get the choice of 'personal' then the option to send it as a 'gift'.

If you request money from them or if its linked straight from a sale on ebay etc then i don't think there is a 'gift' option for them to use.

Hope that helps.

Ah THAT was the missing link! Thanks J4! So the trick is to get the other side to initiate by requesting 'send money', then I have the options of 'personal/gift' etc...nice! Will be testing this out very soon!

Not quite,
THEY will get the option of how they want to send the money, so you need to organize it with them before they start the transaction.

I can't find where the links are...perhaps this just works for the UK paypal?

I tried to get into the UK paypal but it automatically goes back to the US version after I click send money.

Here is what happens:

I click the send money tab
1 screen shows up
There are three tabbed options, "send money online, pay for eBay items, make mass payment"

There is no where to check personal.

What I think is that there is something different with the laws in the UK vs. the US/Canada...in the UK they have to have the gift as an option by law.

Hopefully, I am wrong...but everything that is being said does not work on the North America site from what I can tell.

I agree w/ Wazz...its likely a UK connection thingy, which would suck for any transactions within North America - Wazz and I have been going back and forth testing this out and so far, no go....Sad

Well its not...so it leads me to think its a cross continental thing, not North America...
Dirty, you're a good ol USA chap, and you said it worked for you - was this transaction within North America or with someone overseas?

I sent the cash to Dirty, so you can definitely receive from the UK, but looks like US paypal doesn't have the option to send this way. Sad

Okay so I'm now sure that it only works if it involves the UK, and not if the transcation only happens within North America...that suks! From what you said J4, seems its gotts to come from the UK as opposed to being received too...
