All it takes is for kids to take it on as a craze and all of a sudden this idea would be seen as genius.

From the company's point of view it's a stab in the dark that could reap massive reward should it blow up. To well-adjusted adults the idea is dumb, but is that the targeted demographic? I doubt it.
