Ok,
So here's a recent situation.
I'm not huge on the 35th Run-DMC's but they are a pair I don't have and will pick up if the price is resonable. They're not a "must have", but hell... they're DMC's, right?
So there's a legit pair on eBay a couple weeks ago but the starting price is higher than what I'm willing to drop. They didn't sell and the seller relisted them a week later with a lower starting price.
I almost NEVER put in my max bid early, I will usually try to snipe an auction at the end. This pair of DMC's started at $135, and I'm willing to pay about $160 so in the last 10 seconds, I throw in a bid for $161 and... no luck, the other bidder had a higher max...
No problem, more than I was willing to pay and I'm not heartbroken over not having them.
BUT... It turns out the person that was bidding on the items besides me was our own SuperSk8. His eBay ID was different than his name here so I didn't know. I never would've bid on them if I knew it was him and ended up costing him and extra $30 for the shoes.
My question is this:
Has anyone considered putting together an SSDB member list with a cross reference of their eBay ID's so we don't accidentally bid against each other?
... and Olstar, you gonna change my "group" from registered to SSDB member? I got the necessary contribution posts now.. Thanks Bro!
That's not a bad idea, could get a bit complicated though. Do you use King of the Farm for your ebay ID?
The knowledge grows from my head to my shell covered toes
I think it's a great idea. Farmer.
Especially since you and I are the same size!
If God gives you lemons you should find a new God
some of us do have more than 1 ebay account tho'
" shocking cock-up, the mice were furious "
Sounds good but it could get complicated!!And just cause 1 ssdb member pulls out of biddin doesn't mean the other one will win the item so then 2 members miss out!!
Also how do you determine who pulls out of going for the pair???it could get messy and ruin afew friendships i think!!
It's not the size of the feet!!it's the amount of quality on em
Seeing as there is fuck-all legit worth buying on ebay anyway, I aint bothered!! I only WONT bid if I happen across another SSDB member that either A. I know wants them or B. Its been discussed in here that X,Y or Z is after them failing that, if you snooze you lose.
I can see it helping a few times but it'll cause it's fair share of arguments whichever way it is applied (presuming there'll be contact about max bids and stuff).
My eBay ID is not much different: kingofthefarminla
I see where you're coming from Pokey. Obviously, if two members want the same shoes they can both bid away. There's nothing wrong with that. That's capitalism at it's best and exactly what eBay is all about.
I'm more talking about situations like I ran across where I ended up running a price up on super sk8 and if I would've known he was the other bidder I would certainly have backed off because I didn't want the shoes that bad.
Like i said, It would give me the knowledge of who's who... So I can back off when I want. Not that I will do it all the time.

Well with me anyways if i dont totally want them i won't even bid, cause there's always something else on ebay im wanting/tracking.But i suppose your last comment/idea/view makes sense but im still inclined to say it would be to much hassle but every1 knows my size foot so if its a vintage or rare or a 35th i'm watching it but the chances are so are afew others off this site!!if some1 my size was to IM me and say "im watching this are u going for it??" firstly would the other person wanna show off there find that i might have missed?? but saying they did im an honest enough person to say yeah but if u want em ill not bid and stick to it unless as i said it was something that didnt come up to often.
God that sounds complicated and thats only chatting about it so i dunno am sure some will be for it and some against
It's not the size of the feet!!it's the amount of quality on em
I'd say use an account with a name we can recognize, otherwise, there's nothing to do about it.
Sometimes you won't have times going in here checking a list. IMHO.
I've pm'd one of our members a couple of times so we didn't get into a bidding war over some quality Consortiums. I knew he had more money than me so i backed off and let him have a go.
The way I think of it is that most people have a price they're willing to pay - if I find out Farmer and I are bidding on the same kicks i'll be upfront with how high i'm willing to go and i hope he'd do the same for me. i can't be too pissed about losing to someone with deeper pockets. that's just life.
it backfired on me once in the fall when i let a pair of 35th dassler's go for $380 because I knew the guy/reseller I was up against (not a member of the SSDB as far as I'm aware, though he mentions us in his listings) had a lot of cash. I'm sure I could've won them for $500 (which is what he resold them for), but I wasn't willing to pay $120 over the last bid to prove my theory.
If God gives you lemons you should find a new God
There's a long arsed thread in here somewhere on this very subject.
I think the general concensus went something like leave it to the first person who bids on it if it's an item that comes up fairly frequently and every man for himself if it's something rare !
Would love to know if e bay user "lucameer" is on here as they keep out bidding me!!
