Technically, if you are under the fear of immediate violence then that constitutes assault and it can be something as minor as shaking a fist or words (or sending an email saying that you'll "be coming round! Trust me!")
edit: Just re-read his email and him saying that "this isn't a threat" nullifys any fear in the eyes of the law. Still, contact the police anyways.
