Well, I'm sure someone will tell you to keep searching and you'll find your answers, but I need to warm my fingers up, so:
The Consortium series was originally a collaboration done btwn adidas and a number of top shoe boutiques from around the world for the 35th anniversary series, including Foot Patrol (RIP), Neighborhood, UNDFTD, D-Mop, Tate and Union. The 1st in the series wasn't a collab, instead featuring Adi Dassler, and was a white vin with Adi's face on the side heel and dates on the heel tabs (1970 & 2005). These were all extremely limited in release and tough to get now. If you see a pair for under GBP250, be wary. See http://www.pickyourshoes.com for pictures.
Last year adidas realized they could make a boatload more money if they started doing a new consortium series. This time the model isn't necessarily the superstar (superstar vin to be exact as all the original consortiums were vins), though there are some, including the Force pack, the CMYK and the Caviar. The main feature of last year's consortium was a 'gold' eyelet at the top and some type of interesting material or pattern for the upper.
The consortium release has continued into this year, pretty much the same as last except the top eyelet is black instead of gold.
Whereas adidas gave out the number of pairs they were issuing with the first (35th) consortium series, printing them right on the bottom of the box, they don't really give numbers for the new series. So they might be rare and they might not be, but they are typically only sold through their 'consortium' accounts, including No 6, Bodega, UNDFTD, Livestock, etc, so they can be difficult to get.
