I'm in santorini today Ios tomorrow, but was in Athens all week. Loved it. What they showed on the news was the worst of it and never went for long. It really wasn't too bad.
There was only one point which made me run, when I cane out of my hostel to get some food in Monastiraki square (about 400m south of the parliament) and there was about a thousand people running at me with explosions of tear gas sounding far to close.
Needless to say, the beers went down a lot sweeter on the rooftop bar when your face eyes and nose are burning
but that was my second taste of the gas kinda missing it in Santorini now....
