I'm guessing it's because the Beastie in the middle is wearing that exact c/w on the cover – hence the pic of the new ones next to the beat up pair?

I'm not keen on the silver stripes either...

Ah, didn't see the side by side pic. I've seen the original photo, of course, guess I always figured they were white stripes.
