You know what, please excuse me, i feel a bit of a rant coming on.
This Newport video thing, yes very clever to come up with it but what pisses me off is that there are a whole load of top quality emcees in Wales putting
out good music and the only shit that gets any recognition outside of the local hip-hop scene is mick taking bollox like this and Goldie Looking Chain. FFS.
It seems as though us Welshies can only get noticed by the likes of the BBC if we're prepared to take the piss out of ourselves.
Cracking penelty by the way.

True. It's a weird one Samo. I'm up for a bit of comedy as much as the next man but please, this isn't all we've got to offer.
For the only hip-hop to come out of Wales to be this and 'Your mother got a Penis' is just pitiful.

Yeah, I hear ya on that Dregz, a laugh is all well and good, but it must be galling to think that people think that thats all the hip hop that Wales has to offer. I'd hate it if that was all England appeared to have to offer.

He's not Welsh? He's a cheeky bastard then isn't he?
I don't think anyone would think that that parody skit was at all representative of Welsh hip-hop though would they? Not that I know anything about Welsh hip-hop. I hope not though. . . be like thinking Stutter Rap was representative of UK hip hop in 1988 .

GeeBee, It's just the fact that as far as air play and recognition it's only the comedy stuff that gets noticed. Radio stations in Wales don't support local urban music, but they'll play Goldie Looking Chain and this Newport bollox. Once they do that then station outside of Wales start to play it too. They could do this for the the hip-hop scene if they wanted to but they only seem to support guitar type bands like Stereophonics. My rant is aimed at the radio stations and the Welsh press really.
Nice one Samo. I suppose it's a bit like the fact that you have quality crews in England like Foreign Beggars, but it's the stuff that pushes the 'Englishness' too far with an almost comical accent like The Streets and Professer Green that seems to get all the air play. Shame really.
At least real Hip-hop from England is well known up and down the UK by true heads. (Sorry, rant now over)

I know what you mean with the comedy music thing mate. My old band used to rehearse in the next room to The Darkness back in London - they made a lot of money out of that ludicrous act - and were largely picked up by xfm and radio 1 for the comedy element.

Frustrating innit!
I'd put a bet on your old band being better than them too.
