urm, i'm not a great photographer at all
The shoes on the left are the *cough* Run-DMC shelltoes, the ones on the right are my funky fresh Roc-A-Fellas (with 35th Anniversary phat laces), both size 10 (buyers, please e-mail for prices  )
The Run-DMC, at first glance, feels so real that you almost want it to be (I suppose that's how some people are fooled) but looking at the details and comparing it to both a real superstar 1 and photos of a real 'DMC, you just know.
Notice the difference in the cushion part of the upper heel (where the trefoil is). You can just see quality of the finish on a real 35th. I guess I am privileged cos I can feel the texture and evaluate that aspect of the shoes as well.
The stitching on the black stripes is appalling, and looks like it's been fashioned from a plastic bag. Again, so sorry for the poor quality of the pics.
I think the only way you can really nFor those who remain unconvinced, feel free to buy from the same buyer I did on eBay! Actually, don't - the whole reason i'm doing this is to STOP it from happening to someone else...

olstar - 02-05-06
yeah, the only main difference i can tell between them is how far apart the stitching is..
on this one, if you look down the heel tab thing, the stiching is a lot more spaced out on the fake..
i guess we'll have to keep our eyes open for that in future!

Damn, these fakes are getting better all the time. Do the fake DMCs have the rubberbands inside attached to the tongue?
- and any chance you trade/sell the lace tags from the fake DMCs?
-
dj_wildthing - 02-05-06
Just to make sure: are all the pics of the fake DMCs? I have been studying them and comparing them to my originals, and I must say they're probably the best fakes I've ever seen of that model. If I didn't know better I'd say they were maybe factory seconds or something like that. The heel and the stitching is really the only thing that gives them away judging by the pics. Maybe the feel different too (that's hard to tell from the pics...LOL...) but other than that... hmmmm
You would need some serious detailed pics and knowledge to tell they were fake if you saw them on eBay. And some originals for comparison.

DAMN!
I gotta say it - are you sure they've not seconds? - they look too good to be fakes!
To pick up on an earlier point made by Olstar regarding the stiching on the heel tabs - they are sown different on the Rocs compared to the DMC's - check the following pics from samplekickz (which i'm confident are the real deal)...
Roc-A-Fellas
Run Dmcs
The DMC's show 11 full stitches - the same as the "fake" 1's shown here - as you can see, the Rocs have a lot more stitches on the samplekickz pics - unfortunately i don't own either
so can't compare them properly.
I know you say you can feel the difference in quality & that the stripes feel dodgy, but they are different trainers & therefore will feel different depending on the materials used...
The shell looks the right shape & size aswell - which is usually a big sign when looking at fakes.
If they are fake, then we've all got to tighten up our scrutinising!
So what your saying is... -

I have REAL Run-DMCs?
All the photographs are of the dodgy DMCs and real Roc-A-Fellas.
Okay, before you jump to any conclusions, if this is authentic must be a real drop in the standard of quality for adidas. Can't say I've been in the sneaker game too long, but this takes the piss!
My friend comes from HK and comes back regularly and he says the standard of the rip-off Bape Superstars are getting better all the time. Worth as much as a real pair of 35th superstars. I know this might be a stretch, but couldn't the use the same factories to make DMCs?
As for the factory second theory, I don't know. Does that include substituting low quality material and poor manufacturing standards? Yes? The stripes not only feel dodgy but they, as well as the tongue, are peeling apart at the edges.
Then factory 2nd's they are, but that's the end of my comprimises. They are NOT real... Sorry if I misguided or misdirected anyone, it's just on eBay, you can never be too sure... Do you think I owe the seller an apology (he said 100% authentic)? Also I get paranoid sometimes, I dunno why

hmmm, good question. I only think factory seconds are shoes made with minor flaws, like for instance bad stitching or maybe incorrect assemby (in lack of better words). The materials should be the same as 1st grade shoes, so if the stripes and tongue are peeling I doubt it's because they're only seconds, so they might be fakes after all. That said, they do look extremely good for being a pair of fakes. I guess the number of stitches might also vary depending on size. I checked my own DMCs (size UK 11) and they do have 14 'full' stitches as the rest of my anniversary SS. Also, since you mentioned even the tissue paper looked different and the fact that the seller didn't mind giving you a refund might indicate that these are fakes after all. And, last but not least, I haven't heard of any shops selling factory seconds of any of the limited 35th models.
Anyway, it seems you have some fakes that look good enough to be real and you got them for free, so just rock these babies hard!

I think somoene needs to go over the real and fake run dmc's with a fine toothcomb..
Like whats been said, if they are fakes, they are bloody good ones!
-
bobby dassler - 03-05-06
Nah dre - you certainly don't owe the seller an apology!
Whether they're 2nds or fakes, they aren't what you thought you were paying for
But luckily as you said, you got your money back AND got to keep the trainers = result!
I'm not saying they're definately seconds (therefore real) - they probably are fake & your mate's right about the bape superstars - the fake "super ape stars" are getting nearer the real thing all the time (you can tell the difference once you've seen/touched a real pair though) so they could all be coming out of the same factory...
dj_wildthing Wrote:"I guess the number of stitches might also vary depending on size. I checked my own DMCs (size UK 11) and they do have 14 'full' stitches as the rest of my anniversary SS"
I've looked on other sites & found pictures of stitching on the DMCs heel tab that is similar to the Rocs aswell... so the stiching compared to size idea sounds like something we should b looking into!
As i said before - if they are fake (& it does seem that way due to the peeling stripes) then we've got to tighten our checks because they just look so spot on!
& it looks like the tell-tale signs of no lace locks on fakes is a thing of the past...
Anyway, welcome to the site dre - hopefully you'll spend as much time here as we all do!
