Ilie Nastase, aka Nasty, was a tennis player in the '70s. then he became a politician.

ahh ok, seems like he was a pretty damn good tennis player. Ranked 28th in the top 40 of all time, by TIME or sumthin.

I'm sure he still plays on the senior circuit too! I believe he had the McEnroe streak & would lose his rag & challenge umpires decisions.

the nastase's were part of the 'signature' range that adidas were so reliant upon in the 1970's. stan smiths, rod laver, ilie nastase and arthur ashe all had tennis shoes in the range. the ashe and the smith had the rounded, traditional sole and body and the nastase and laver had the EXACT same sole unit and the body, with the laver doing without the three stripes.
several reissues but I have a pair of OG's from the seventies. point to note: the stan smith was originally known as the 'robert haillett' in its initial run. stan smith signature came later.
