CHRISTIES AND NIKE ANNOUNCE SNEAKERS AUCTION

Z|rich, 13 October 2006 - Christies and Nike announce the first-ever auctioning of sneakers by a major auction house, a charity sale to benefit Schtifti, a Swiss foundation promoting health for young people through freestyle sports. The auction will take place on Wednesday, 1 November 2006 in Z|richs trendiest night spot Mascotte near Bellevue.

Christies will auction five pairs of the +41 Nike iD Air Max, part of the Nike Air Max 1 series which represent an iconic shoe in sneaker history. The shoes being auctioned were designed by Lausannes star young design firm +41. By personalizing the sneakers with eyes, +41s intention was to switch the ordinary roles: instead of people looking at the sneakers, it's the sneakers that look at you.

The eyes also represent +41's vision of Nike Air History: they see and show a revolutionary system which brought something new to sports technology and definitively changed the sneaker scene. These shoes were originally sold only at the niche boutique Thomas I Punkt store in Hamburg, with all benefits going to a charitable organization. Due to overwhelming demand all models sold out before the release.

Now Nike will offer five pairs of the +41 Nike iD Air Max from the exclusive numbered series of 41 packages which consists of a:

- a pair of +41 Nike iD Air Max 1
- a +41 Air Max 1 artwork t-shirt
- a pack of stickers

Each lot represents a unique item, because there will only be one shoe sold in each size, and there may thus be strong competition for certain shoes. The broader market for sneakers has been growing rapidly as the shoe-fanatic market sector rises in economic status. In late September, for example, a pair of Nike Air Jordan IV sold for more than $5,200 online and limited edition sneakers designed by couture specialists commonly sell for prices rivaling those of more traditional luxury footwear.

Christie's is the world's leading auction house, a name and place that speaks of extraordinary art, unparalleled service, and international glamour. Founded in 1766 by James Christie, Christie's conducted the greatest auctions of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, and today remains a popular showcase for the unique and the beautiful. Prices range from $200 to over $80 million. In 2005 Christie's annual global sales increased 38% to $3.2 billion, the highest total in company history and propelling the auction house into global market leadership

The Zurich office, located next to the famous Kunsthaus, was opened in 1978. Christie's began holding bi-annual auctions for Swiss Art in 1991 and regularly hosts preview exhibitions, lectures, charity auctions and other special events, which are very popular among both collectors and art connoisseurs.

+41 has some nice stuf in their clothing range. I picked up a rather tasty hoody when I was in Barcelona.



Their website is a bit pricy. They want 110 euros for the hoody and I only paid 50 euros.

I do also like the shoes because like yourself scotswiss, im also a fan of Nike.
Nike and Puma give me that little fix that adidas aren't able to.

With Nike it's the slightly more modern feel I think, for me they come up trumps in the sleek shoes stakes, Adidas in the retro style category and Puma I'm not a fan.......

Mine is without doubt my Stash Classic BWs......

Got the whole pack but want rid of the AF1s, UK 8.5....if you know someone who knows someone who wants em they are mint, never worn....

I hear what your saying on that one.
The only Puma I would wear are the Suedes/Clydes. To me it's like the Superstar in the sense that they are the two shoes for me that represent old school hip hop.
Thats what I love about the adidas Crooked Tongue adicolor is that it has the shape of a Superstar, but has a lovely suede toe just like my Puma Suedes. The best of both worlds.

My favourite Nike shoe that I own?
Thats a tough one because I love my Neon Air Max 90s, but I do love my Footpatrol Stabbs and Air U Breathe Air Max 87s that I recently bought in Barcelona.
Favourite shoes for different days.

Nice choices. I'm loving my Size? 90s right now, they shouldn't work but they somehow do!

The 95, for me anyway, is hard to beat as an all round winner. The Stash AM95 is the nuts.....

The 97s were my all time fave since I bought 3 pairs in Germany in 98 and wore em all to death, the silver/red tick ones, the rereleases are shite in comparison to the far chunkier original!

Don't get me wrong, as a young un I loved my Suedes and was tempted with the recent Yo! release, but it would have been a nostalgic purchase as opposed to a "I need em!" purchase...

It's weird, for me any Nike shoe is wearable and disposable (except the aforementioned Stash BW) but Soups are something else, so many of them I struggle to wear since they are so damn nice......

Nostalgic purchases are good because a lot of the time they remind you of why you love trainers so much!
A lot of my shoes are like that because I either had them when I was 12 and when I was 12 I loved them or I loved a shoe so much but just couldn't afford it.

Hmmmm, normally I'd jump right on board with that since I tend to make impulse buys but I don't think the nostalgic tip gets my interest levels raised at all, except for Jordans.

The V was my first "expensive" trainer and to this day I love it, got 2 pairs of blacks (retro), 1 white and waiting on my 3Ms to arrive!

Vintagekicks had em, warming to that site actually, over priced yes, but I think the comfort factor in knowing you are getting 100% genuine kicks is a winner.
