I'm scheduled to get this next month:
Everything inside the circle. The banner says "on the backs of the many so the few can advance"...yes I am a communist. Also, a fantastic album. This came out way before the BP situation...Getting it in all black except for neon green in the syringe. What you guys think?

^yeah, the way the guy did that on foot was pretty amazing. That pic was taken when it first got done, it's almost exactly two years old now. I'm not sure if he didn't go deep enough or it's just the nature of having it on my foot but it has gotten a little faded in certain spots. I'll probably eventually get it touched up. And there's one thing that sucks about having them on the feet (I have both done), I some times get sick of seeing them. It's like I wake up every day see my feet and I'm wearing the same pair of shoes or something...I've wanted to get that Lif cover done since I first saw it, it's such a great statement and concept. I imagine it will go down fairly easy and probably very quickly because theres no shading or nothing.

Tony would like to see some more detailed pics of yours
im planning on getting one done when i go to europe next year (Italy: Alex De Pase) so doing heaps of research now and asking questions!
Any idea how long a shoulder/half sleeve would take to do? fairly high detail/colour...
ball park figure on cost?
xo

In the Uk some charge by the hour or give a price on consultation. Generally £60ish per hour. Not sure about Italy but that give you an idea.
As for time it depends on the details. Sleeves normally two sittings outline one session colour the next. Some artists will do it all in one sitting but not many.
Also consider the healing process and travel. Do you want to sit for a long period on one place with a burning hot or very itchy new peice of ink which is essentialy a wound.
Take a look at
http://www.bmezine.com/media/photo/tattoo/ lots of info.

thanks for that info sab. that site just a gallery or is there info like what you just provided me?
well thats why im thinking ill only the "portrait" part of it done on inside bicep. and get it done at the back end of my trip so like you say it wont hinder going to the beach or anything if i get it done in the last few days..

A detailed sleeve in two sittings?

I wouldn't recommend getting a big piece such as a half-sleeve done whilst on holiday. For one it'll be sore as fuck and potentially could spoil your holiday, plus direct sunlight is not great for new tats but most importantly, if your tattooist is in another hemisphere it's gonna be a long trek if it needs touching up once it's healed. Find a good local artist who you can have a couple of relaxed consultations with first and build a relationship with so he/she knows exactly what you want. You'll never have just one tattoo so it makes sense to find someone who you can work with over a number of years

That website has loads of parts too it. Just hunt about the stories and forum bits.
SS- I meant the half sleeve starter piece, a full sleeve can take years.....
Nik thats a very good point about touch ups ss made. If your new to ink and cant resist the itch there is a high chance you could pull some of the detail off. Dont consider touch ups from another artist they may not have the same ink so you could end up with a two tone peice.

Cheers SS. Yeh I've researched all this sort of stuff about sunlight, aftercare etc... That's why I'm thinking if I just get the inside bicep part done which is a portrait ( his speciality. Haven't seen any better realism artist yet thats why I want it done by him) it won't be too bad. Inside bicep won't get too much sun, especially if it's in the last week or two of my trip. And maybe before I leave for home I can get a touch up if need be
Only reserve there is, depending on how I design the half sleeve, will it ever be able to look like the one composition and not too disjointed? Guess that comes down to how I design it and what colours etc will be used
SS you got any to show?

You're brave. Apart from the tops of your feet and maybe your elbows, the inside of your bicep is one of the most sensitive and therefore painful places to get inked. Particularly portait work which requires a lot of shading. Are you're planning to get the portrait done in Italy and the rest of the sleeve done when you get back home?
I do have quite a few tatts but none of outstanding beauty or artistic skill, most of mine are gangster/jailhouse stylee script and blackwork, no colours.
RE: Show us ya tatts -
nikosg - 03-11-10
hahaha oh wow, thanks for that lol what kind of pain are we talking? unbearable?
well yeh i think so. i may just get the portrait part done inner bicep, and maybe down the track finish the front side of the arm off. just need to consider how to blend the inside and outside without making them look like two completely seperate pieces.
but im still unsure about how a portrait would appear on the inner bicep.
