guess i'll revive this one for the weekend
my youngest child graduated from high school yesterday. graduated with several honors.... silver cord for 250+ community service, gold cord for 3.5+ GPA all semesters of high school, red cord for being an Academic Mentor, and white robe (versus maroon school color) for academic achievements. makes a dad very proud. and i have to admit that i was teary eyed the entire evening/ceremony. i'm sure that's the just the first wave of teary eyed moments... since we have dorm room move-in in august and she'll be a five hour drive away.
and... to celebrate graduation.... we're heading to Maui, Hawaii for eight days!!! Wahoo!!!
(borrowed photo and sorry for big pic)

Congrats, Olskool!
@ Vortec: I am assuming they would put different color cords around their necks depending on what honors are being bestowed on the graduate. Almost like medals. I think this is a fairly recent practice as it wasn't around when I was growing up.(at least in my area)

Tif is correct. It's a fancy/ornate "rope" basically that drapes over/around the neck and lays on top of the gown on both sides of the chest. Kind of fancily braided with a decorative knot on both ends.
well here, easier to just post a pic
and no, no Supes were worn for this event. too special. Stacy Adams
