Sorry to tell you Niko, but that Nokia N97 mini is crap.
I tried it a couple of days and only good things are keyboard and camera, though that keyboard is very small. That touch screen is nowhere near the iphones.
N97 mini is a small and if they figure out how to make that screen better through firmware updates then it might turn OK.
Samsung's new Wave is coming out in a couple of weeks and there you have a real competitor for iPhone. That should also be under 500...

I totally understand but this new model might change your mind. Been testing it a couple of times (we have some of those for testing) and it's really different than old samsungs.
But if you can't go wrong with iPhone. Still my choice numero uno.

Seriously what's wrong with a nokia 6300?

I took up running nearly ten years ago to keep the love handles down and also because I wasn't playing enough footy (still have two pairs of boots in the wardrobe ), I love the solitude of running, still find it hard to run with anyone.

Hated my first Great North Run - too many people!

Yes, I definitely run alone. I can't listen to music either as it screws up my breathing.

For phones, is the Google phone a choice? House mate was given one at TED and is a fan. And it has sold better than the iPhone on release, so you know there will me mad app development.

I think there is only one model, the Nexus One. Just did a bit of research and now I'm getting conflicting reports on sales. Anyway, you can only buy it online and I think without a plan the retail is USD529.00.

Unless you're pretty tech oriented you might not want to be an early adopter, now that I give it more thought.

Google phones are an option too. Googles own nexus one is probably OK, but have no real experience on that one. There is also HTC Hero or what ever it's called around the globe which is quite nice. A bit more technical than iPhone but the screen and feel is really close to real deal
I don't know if they sell Motorola Droid in Australia but that's one that you might like to test. Full qwerty keyboard and good touch screen.
