If you can contact the person or company in the US who are sending you the item, get them to mark the value down to less than $20, as pure said, I also ask them to mark the item as gift.
Never once had a charge when said person/company comply.
The bigger companies will refuse to do this for you, however. You'll get no luck with someone like Footlocker, I don't think.

Battosai, I've done this a bunch. Works like a charm. Only downside is if the package actually goes missing and you had pairs of shoes each marked at $20 when they were say $100. But if the package goes missing then there's also the bigger problem of where to source the shoes again (in the case that they were rare)!

That's the risk you take, I guess.
I've been lucky with that. Got my Upper Playgrounds and Warhols sent in a box marked $20.

Speaking of UP's, I finally got mine, but now realizing I'd fit much better in a UK10 (I have a UK10.5). I also got 'em off the bay and thought [hoped] that the seller meant US10.5 when he simply said '10.5'... now I'm lookin' to trade them for a half size smaller. Anyone who can do that, please holler my way before I break down and finally decide to wear 'em!
