I almost lost my job over a pair of fakes - Cha-Z - 28-08-08

True story, but first...

My name is Charlie I'm 27 years old and live in Silver Lake, CA. Born and raised in SoCal. I am a part-time DJ full time partier and currently make bread as an assistant to a real DJ/producer/promoter (sorry can’t name drop per “The Boss”). I must first admit that I am not a purist as many of you on this site my favorite pair of shoes right now are my McFly Nike Hyperdunks that were given to me as a gift and I am looking forward to the Goonies themed Pumas that are coming out at the end of the year. I do have a couple pair of superstars but they are just the basic whit on white stripes and a pair of white with black stripes.

The reason why I’m here, and almost got fired, my employer received as a gift a pair of the super secret pair of 35ths from one of his clients, they came in this awesome case with some accessories, I’m sure you are familiar with them. I guess he found out they were number 35 in the set and looked up and found what the others in the set were and decided he wanted pairs of the D-Mops, Ian Browns, and the Underworlds. Thus he put me on the task of getting them for him. I did a little research, should have done more now that I know what I know, and found out they are discontinued and turned to eBay were I found a pair of Ian Browns for him. Little did I know there is a rampant pirated market of these and when they arrived gave them to him. He wore them out with some friends who are apparently “shelltoe” aficionados and pointed out to him they were knock-offs. After much groveling and a second chance I am still charged in securing these for him. He is willing to pay a full premium on these and has even given me permission to buy ‘used’, I use this loosely, basically he wants box fresh with the tags off if necessary. Please if you could help me redeem myself and point me in the right direction I would be in your debt. He wears, as I have found out a pretty standard size of 10.5 – 11 US, making it that much more difficult to get these.

Please help me.

Welcome to ssdb charlie !!! good story and yeah u gotta tread carefully on ebay when it comes to 35th anniversary superstars.
D-mops are like rockin horse shit!!!they don't pop up often at all but its a case of looking on ebay daily and checkin and checking and checking.
Is your boss not interested in say the dasslers??,chilli peppers, undftd's ??

RE: I almost lost my job over a pair of fakes - Lorrie - 28-08-08

welcome along, charlie. you best explain to your employer that your search is going to take some time if he wants legit kicks.

i think I've seen one pair of d-mops in the past year close to that size.

underworlds and ian browns are more common, but the market is pretty dry right now.

RE: I almost lost my job over a pair of fakes - Cha-Z - 28-08-08

I'm pretty sure he is mainly interested in those becaue he has worked with them in one way or another. He actually just returned from Ibiza Spain where he did some shows with both Underworld and Ian Brown. After doing some research on this fine site though I have to say I am pretty hot for both the Neighborhoods and Tates as well as those new Philey-Blunts, my rolling paper of choice. Work first though, I have to redeem myself after that little fubar of mine.

RE: I almost lost my job over a pair of fakes - pokey27 - 28-08-08

RE: I almost lost my job over a pair of fakes - woody - 28-08-08

You're gonna have to tell us who they are for otherwise where's the fun? I mean what's in it for us?

Am I the only one here thinking that while Charlie's story is unfortunate (and still wishing him the best of luck), that he's not a shelltoe lover, collector nor does have ANY interest in Stars?... He's a errand boy, looking for shoes for his boss... Can't help ya.

Man, you've got your work cut out for you and google is your best bet... and you'll probably NEVER get your hands on D-mops.

I know this may sound like a dick move... but fuck it, I'm from LA too. That's how we are.

RE: I almost lost my job over a pair of fakes - Cha-Z - 29-08-08

Hey that's fair King, but as I am doing my research on your guys' site here I am finding some stuff I like too, I would really like to get my hands on a pair of those blunts. Yes, I am an errand boy; but it pays the bills, gets me into sick parties, and a steady stream of tail. Upon this quest I have been commisioned I have been educated on the up and up of whats legit and what to look for on the fakes. I don't really go about advertising the fact but I am a closet Star Wars geek and am now on my own quest for those two pairs of consortiums. True, I do not think I would become a 'collector' or have such extensive collections as many of you all have here, but I am definately forming a list of some sheltoes I would like to aquire myself. I will definately not become a 'purist', my taste is just too diverse to be solely dedicated to just one style, hence my Nike McFlys and the quest for the soon to be released Puma Goonies, but mad props if that's your thing. If this site is just for the collectors and purists, let me know, I'll bow my head and exit stage left. Either way, this site has been very informative and is very well put together and I could see myself hanging around a bit; but I can honestly say I don't know if I would ever be able to contribute much in the way of posting new releases as I see many of you who take pride in this in the "New ones" thread but I could definately give my opinions on this or that.

RE: I almost lost my job over a pair of fakes - TheScuderia6 - 29-08-08

There's no reason to think about leaving man. I think having an interest in supes, and having an interest to learn more about supes should be enough. If your visit here has brought you some new information about supes, and has excited you to perhaps pick up a few new pairs then the current board members have done a good job. And the fact that you've had a good intro, and have been polite is a good start, too. I remember that fool from Vegas with the crazy 35th anniversary collection asking people to "bow down" lol. I'd rather have someone like you on the boards who maybe doesn't have a crazy collection but is cool with others and wants to know more about supes. So anyways welcome to the boards, and I hope you enjoy it!

RE: I almost lost my job over a pair of fakes - Dirty - 29-08-08

Ditto. There are alotta folks on here that are Sneakerheads in general and collect more than just Superstars but since this is a site dedicated to the almighty Supe thats all you are really going to see! (We do have a non-superstar section down near the bottom if you didnt notice!) Im glad you learned a lil from what we all put in here and enjoy your stay bro!

RE: I almost lost my job over a pair of fakes - damo - 29-08-08

I just hooked a mate up with a pair of genuine Ian Browns from Fight Club NY. They might have a pair. Also, try Crooked Tongues.

RE: I almost lost my job over a pair of fakes - Sooper - 29-08-08

Welcome along fella, if you decide to stay?!

RE: I almost lost my job over a pair of fakes - stylz - 29-08-08

Welcome Cha-Z Smile
I hope you pick up some good info on here and hang around, but I don't like your
chances of someone hooking you up with Tates or D-Mops etc.
No offence but there are so many people in here i'd give a heads up to before you
for a pair of 35th consortiums but the Yodas and Vaders i'd gladly help YOU get if
I came across a pair as long as it wasn't at the expense of another longer standing member...

RE: I almost lost my job over a pair of fakes - Big J - 29-08-08

Welcome Cha-Z

You should get some luck eventually with the Underworlds and Ian Browns, but I've never seen a pair of legit D-Mops on ebay, and only saw a legit pair of Tates once in my size (nearly pulled the trigger, only for the seller to retract the listing after about 2 hours)

Like TheScuderia6 said you should stay, you've came in with a good intro and asked for help with a bit of background, not stormed in and just said "Hi, I've searched ebay for 3 minutes and can't find a pair I want, tell me exactly where they are now" (Then included it in their signature too) like some recent additions have. I knew hee-haw about Superstars really when I joined but I've built up a half-decent collection while avoiding fakes thanks to the help of the fine people on here.

Having said that, you might have more luck if you invited some of us to these sick parties with the steady stream of tail! (Or as we Scots say, "a pairty hoachin wi fanny") Wink

Hope you stick around.

RE: I almost lost my job over a pair of fakes - woody - 29-08-08

King - Was gonna say something similar myself but I've got the "miserable bastard" reputation to lose Laughing

Cha-z - You need to tell us who they are for dude!
